“… Armed Police were involved in
an all-night stand-off after a group of travellers forced
their way into an industrial estate. When security guards told the travellers to leave the site, in Bayton Road, Exhall,
they were allegedly threatened with weapons, including a
shotgun….
A spokesman for Mercia Securities, whose officers were
involved in the incident, said a convoy of caravans tried
to get on to the estate about 9pm on Tuesday… some
of the travellers came out of the caravans brandishing
machetes and bars and… what looked like a shotgun.
“They were shouting abuse at us. We locked down
the estate and shut all the gates go they couldn’t
leave until the police got there… There were about
10 more caravans that wanted to get in, so the landlord
was really pleased we stopped them, because it could have
been a lot worse.”…
